Editorial Policy
The Guitar Plugged publishes guitar journalism built around real playing experience and hands-on gear testing. This page documents the standards every article on the site is held to.
Who writes our articles
All articles are researched and written by experienced guitarists. Our founder and Editor-in-Chief, Patrick Lawlor, oversees every piece. Patrick has 20+ years of playing experience and previously worked as a retail gear specialist at Guitar Center and Bass Pro Shops.
Fact-checking and accuracy
- Specs, prices, and product details are checked against manufacturer sources before publication.
- Historical claims about artists, gear, and songs are cross-referenced against multiple sources.
- If we get something wrong, we correct it and note the change — see our Corrections Policy.
Opinions are clearly labeled
Opinion pieces, hot takes, and editorial commentary are clearly identified — typically under the Guitar Talk category or with a labeled "TGP Verdict" block. Reviews and buyer's guides separate factual specs from subjective tone impressions.
Hands-on reviews whenever possible
We prioritize writing about gear we have personally played, owned, or extensively tested. When a review is based on research rather than firsthand experience, we say so up front. See How We Test Gear for our full evaluation process.
Affiliate relationships do not influence editorial
We earn affiliate commissions on some links — see our Affiliate Disclosure. Those relationships have no bearing on which gear we recommend or how we rate it. We turn down sponsorship offers that would require positive coverage.
Updates and corrections
Articles are updated as new information, products, or technology become available. Major revisions get a visible "Updated" date. Errors are corrected promptly and transparently.
